Enda approached us with a development sample of their first shoe, the Iten. The design had been completed, however, the shoe still needed to be developed for production and the obstacles for having the shoe made in Kenya were in place. The process involved building components in China and shipping the components to Kenya for assembly with a multi-year plan to produce the shoes entirely in Kenya. We really enjoyed the problem solving associated with this project.
Our work on bringing the Iten to the market expanded into leading design and development to help build their line. After the launch of the Iten, a lightweight trainer, we helped introduce the high mileage trainer Lapatet, trail runner Koobi Fora, second edition of the Iten and the Mwanzo, a lifestyle shoe made for the Kenyan market. Each shoe took details and inspiration from Kenya, from the flowing seas of wind-blown grass, winding canyons, and deep blue ocean waves utilized by the Lapatet, to the second discovery details related to Koobi Fora’s namesake. We felt honored to help build running shoes that could represent a country so connected with running.
